DOLLS
Contemporary Asian-manufactured dolls served as the main source of inspiration for this imagery. The bright flat colours and shiny metallic paints reflect the mass-manufacturing process of the dolls, their plastic composition and their place in popular culture. Stark black or flat primary-coloured backgrounds highlight the dolls’ silhouettes and features and lend them a ‘staged’ quality. Hypersexualised style icons for little girls, these dolls are cast adrift in their own narratives.
