2019

My paintings are multi-layered and the process of making them often feels torturous and fraught with uncertainty and doubt. I try to paint with impunity, beginning each painting with no fixed idea of the journey it is about to take. Becoming less attached to outcome allows me to take more risks, as I often obliterate what I’ve just spent hours painting. I have to trust that the brush marks and the legacy of random, accidental texturing of early layers will suggest my next moves, as I glide over raised sections with a wide dry brush. Meaning is derived from the process of painting itself.
